GAC Company Profile

As a direct result of the closure of the Churchill Redman and Denham lathe factories at Halifax in 1973, Greening and Crowther Engineering Company was founded, as a partnership, between two former employees of these companies.

The records, drawings and all specification data of the entire range of Churchill Redman and Denham machine tool products was taken over by the partnership and a spares, repair and reconditioning service was established catering for a wide range of machine tools.

The company steadily increased its capacity and work-force and began producing special purpose machines alongside the reconditioning activities.

In December 1984 the partnership acquired a limited company and was incorporated as Formula Technology Limited. This was changed to Greening and Crowther Engineering Company at the next board meeting in January 1985. The limited company was acquired to deal with a number of overseas contracts and to administer spares enquiries for Churchill products in North America.

By 1987 the company had outgrown its factory premises in Clayhouse Lane and the present facility at Turney Street was purchased, the new factory offered the availability of a larger throughput of machinery and a significant increase in the size of machines which could be handled.

By 1989 the business had expanded to a size where it was decided by the two partners that the company should become limited. On 1st November 1989 the partnership was converted into a limited company and so became Greening and Crowther Engineering Company Limited.

During 1993 the second of the two founders retired and the remainder of the shares were acquired by the present owners who are the Directors

The company name was changed in 2001 to GAC Engineering Group Limited
