Projects |
GAC Engineering works with clients across many industry sectors, including steel, defence, oil, rail, shipbuilding, automotive and paper plus many others.
The type of projects we handle range from time-critical emergency repairs to more strategic upgrading programmes that combine new technology, such as CNC controls, with existing machine tools to accommodate new production processes and integration with other manufacturing processes.
Every programme of work we carry out is underpinned by robust project management to give our clients total peace of mind throughout partnering with GAC. Here are some of the projects we have recently worked on:
|
Forest Line Rotor Slot Milling Machine
This machine was transferred from Europe to the UK and installed at the customers premises where it was re-wired and Retrofitted with a new CNC System, Servo Drive Motors and amplifiers along with a new suite of electrical cabinets. The machine was subsequently transferred to China for the production of Turbine Generator Rotors.

GAC Slab Linishing Machine
This machine was designed and manufactured for a UK customer by GAC Engineering Group Ltd for linishing the surface of slabs of Titanium up to 1,300mm wide by 100mm thick. The machine is designed to produce a good quality surface finish in preparation for the next stage of manufacture. Due to the instability of the material removed it has to be served with flood coolant during cutting within a fire retardant enclosure which has built in automatic fire extinguishers. A second machine was subsequently purchased by the customer.

Factory Relocation
GAC were asked to take on a Turnkey Project to relocate a customer from their old factory to a brand new purpose built site in York. The project took three months to complete and involved the removal and installation of machine tools, process equipment, welding machinery, stores facilities and offices. GAC are currently Project Managing a much larger but similar factory relocation in China which involves in excess of 2000 pieces of equipment including the procurement of new machine tools as well as the overhaul of existing equipment.

Vertical Boring Machine Re-engineer and Retrofit
These two photo’s are in fact of the same machine before and after the re-design and retrofit project carried out on it. The machine was a conventionally operated Webster and Bennett VTL which GAC fully rebuilt and converted to CNC operation. The original turret slide was removed and a new ram type carriage was designed and manufactured incorporating and automatic tool clamping system which enables us to manufacture and fit a 16 station servo driven toolchanger magazine.

|
Horizontal Borer Re-engineer and Retrofit
A large Droop and Rein horizontal borer which had a new higher speed spindle headstock manufactured fitted. This machine has a multi station toolchanger magazine mounted on the rear of the column and was manufactured for one of our customers in the USA.

|
Large CNC Roll Lathe
This machine was a conventionally operated Roll Lathe which was completely rebuilt and re-designed for CNC operation and was the first of two identical machines to have this conversion carried out.
